Food festivals are firmly on the menu for summer 2024 – hurrah! A visit to a food festival is always a great way to discover small producers and enjoy a full-flavoured, al fresco day out.

★ Pub in the Park, four dates May to September
Music by the likes of Van Morrison, De La Soul and Busted meets food by local pubs and leading chefs at Tom Kerridge’s roaming festival. Each Pub in the Park weekend has its own distinct flavour and line-up of food and music guests, with the calendar including Marlow (16-19 May), Chiswick (28-30 June), Reigate (12-14 July) and St Albans (6-8 September). Foodies Festival, 12 dates May to September
Music, shopping and talented chefs including Jeff Galvin, Bake Off champ Matty Edgell and former MasterChef winner Shelina Permalloo. Day tickets from £19, available from Foodies Festival

The Great British Food Festival, 10 dates May to September
Street food, demos, live music and artisan markets at heritage venues. Book ahead for extras like kids cooking classes and foraging walks. Enter the Cake Off for free entry. Day tickets from £15, available from Great British Food Festival

★ Taste of London, 12-16 June 
2024 marks the 20th anniversary of this popular London festival. Sample dishes from some of the capital’s most exciting restaurants in grassy Regent’s Park, including Circolo Popolare, Roka and Roti King. Plus: ejoy tasting sessions and cookery demos by the city’s best chefs. Tickets from £24, available from Taste of London

★ Meatopia, Tobacco Dock, London, 29 Aug-1 Sep

★ Taste of Scilly, Scilly Isles, 12th-22th Sep

Seafeast – The Dorset Seafood Festival, Weymouth, 7-8 Sep
Street food, live music and expert info on preparing seafood at Weymouth Peninsula; funds are raised for charity Fisherman’s Mission, supporting families reliant on the sea. Tickets from £15, available from Dorset Seafood

★ Kendal Calling, Cumbria, 1-4 August
This beloved music festival has a strong food and drink offering. Visit Tim Peaks Diner (brainchild of The Charlatan’s Tim Burgess), dip into the Oktoberfest beer festival or try street food from across the globe (including Tibetian, Creole and Indonesian). Food festivals in Yorkshire and North East England

★ Malton Food Lovers Festival, North Yorkshire, 25-27 May

★ Ludlow Food Festival, Shropshire, 13-15 Sep

★ Armagh Food & Cider Weekend, 5-8 Sep

★ Galway International Oyster and Seafood Festival, 27-29 Sep

Food festivals in Scotland

★ Edinburgh Food Festival, Assembly George Square Gardens, 19–28 July
The city’s only free central food festival returns to Edinburgh with stallholders offering everything from gelato to poke bowls. Visit on 20 and 21 July for the Scottish Street Food Awards. Free entry, visit Ed Food Fest
