Legendary restaurant Joe Allen, Sharp’s Brewery and a trip to the Star & Garter in Falmouth: listen now
This month, come rain or shine, the delicious. podcast is suitably summery. We talk to editor Karen Barnes about some of the highlights in the brand new August issue of the magazine: a rustic menu from sunny Provence, burgers that are just asking to be thrown on the barbecue, and GBBO’s Martha Collison and her wonderful bakes that would be perfect for a Breast Cancer Care afternoon tea – they not only taste good, they can do good, too.
Listen here:
We pay a visit to legendary theatre restaurant Joe Allen and hear why owners Tim and Lawrence bought the place, how they keep the spark alive and why you shouldn’t ask a famous actor for a selfie.
Next we head to Falmouth in Cornwall and pop into the Star & Garter by the harbour for a pint and a bite to eat. Winner of the Food Reader Awards 2016, this restaurant with rooms serves fish direct from the boat and farmed meat which they butcher, cure and smoke themselves – and now they’re thinking of running cookery courses.
The eating and drinking continues with an innovative beer pairing pop-up with Sharps Brewery and podcaster Gilly Smith setting sail on a mini gastrotour down the River Thames.
Plus, enjoy some behind-the-scenes action at the final judging of the delicious. Produce Awards 2017 and find out what Tom Tanner from the Sustainable Restaurant Association looks for when creating the shortlist for the People’s Favourite Restaurant.
