GBBO episode 9: The good, the bad and the ugly
By Izzy Brimeau
Last week we remembered bakes that had been forgotten. And this week I remembered why the BBC’s version of GBBO was so much better. A meringue showstopper in the semi final… Really? I was less than impressed.
So, patisserie week brought an assortment of sweet treats I can’t pronounce, and the usual not-so-relaxing evening in front of the telly. Find out who whipped up some great bakes and who cracked under the heat in this week’s roundup of the good, the bad and the ugly moments.
The good
It was wonderful to see Kate picking up her game and making a good impression once again. I like your buns, hun.
Sophie excelled at the technical challenge – her cakes were not at all miserable.
Though Sophie’s ballet skills are no more, her meringue tutu and corset definitely took the cake. Well done for winning star baker, once again. You may, or may not, be my favourite…
The bad
Choux-nicorns and choux-mojis – they’re a little too tacky for my tastebuds.
When everyone’s meringues were cracking in the oven.
Shortly followed by Steven’s chocolate dissolving. Uh-oh.
The ugly
Steven’s buns were crack-a-lacking. They looked like burnt tiger bread than anything else.
Can someone please tell Stacey to stay away from the pink food colouring. Week after week, it’s just a bit much.
I can’t say I was a huge fan of Kate’s rainbow creation either.
As always, I was sad to see another contestant leave the Bake Off tent. We’ll miss you and your array of very serious concentration faces Stacey…
So, on to the final we venture. Three great bakers, three (hopefully) good challenges and one overall winner. Until then, try your hand at meringue or Raymond Blanc’s choux buns.
