The Cosori TurboBlaze air fryer is available from Cosori and Amazon (£159.99 RRP).

What’s good about it?

The TurboBlaze’s USP is its speed, which is made possible by its DC (direct current) motor. Normally household appliances have AC motors, which are cheaper to manufacture, but the advantages of a DC motor are energy efficiency and precision temperature and fan control. Cosori says that this means the TurboBlaze can cook faster and help you make savings on your energy bills.

The manufacturers say that this single-drawer six-litre model is suitable for cooking for three to six people. We assume that this means that it would best suit a family of three who sometimes cook for a couple of other guests, in which case that estimate would seem spot on. We managed to roast a 1.9 kg chicken in it and the drawer would also comfortably hold half a dozen small pudding dishes.

There are 10 different presets, four of which are “turbo” cooking functions (the ones that Cosori says offer faster speeds than some other air fryers). The rest are slower settings and include preheat, reheat and keep warm.

The TurboBlaze also has a very clear display on its control panel that shows you the fan speed level of the preset you selected. This is particularly useful for people who are new to air fryers and just getting used to the range of settings they offer, as it means you don’t have to refer back to the instruction book constantly. There’s nothing worse than accidentally selecting a setting with a very high speed to find your food is burnt on the outside and raw in the middle!

This model offers a wide range of temperature and time options, allowing you to select a temperature between 30°C and 230°C and a time between one minute and 24 hours. This is a wider range than most air fryers and is helpful if you want to dehydrate food or try long low-and-slow meat cooks. The one-hour ‘proof’ preset is excellent for helping bread rise, particularly if you’re short on time. The dough does dry out a little on the surface, but this doesn’t impact the final bake.

What’s not so good about it?

The drawer for the TurboBlaze has a lock on it and you have to press a button on the handle to release the drawer. Though this may be useful if you have young children, for everyone else it presents an unnecessary obstacle when you want to whip the drawer open and check on the contents or give your food a shake.

If you are considering this model purely for the faster cooking speeds, we found in our own tests that the time advantages that the DC motor provided were only moderate – a couple of minutes here and there – so you may want to weigh that up against other factors.

Of course capacity is also a big factor when choosing an air fryer and single-drawer models can be a little limiting if you want to cook mains and sides or puddings and savoury dishes at the same time. You’ll need to give some thought to how you are likely to use your air fryer before choosing a single-drawer model.

Another thing to note is that, in common with many appliances, the high-gloss finish of the control panel on this model does attract fingerprints and dust, so will need a regular wipe over with a cloth!

Overall verdict

The TurboBlaze is a compact and well-designed air fryer that offers a clear and easy-to-read display. It’s perfect for a family of three who sometimes cook for more. The fan speed display means we particularly recommend this model for those who are new to air fryers as it offers an extra helping hand when trying to decide which setting to choose when you cook.
