Wines for the weekend: reds to go with lamb

Every great lamb dish requires an equally fantastic glass of wine. We’ve selected three Chilean bottles to complement three lamb recipes you’ll want to cook right now

Grab a bargin
This Chilean Silver Ghost Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 is a great price at £5.99 (£4.99 when you mix and match 6 bottles, Majestic). Likeable, medium-bodied and loaded with fresh but ripe cassis, it’s easy-going with spiced lamb sausage rolls with cumin.

Friday special
This Chilean Mont Gras Carmenère Reserva Especial 2014 is a mid-range wine, priced at £8.99, from Waitrose. A star match, with its soft clove and cinnamon notes, to this spicy lamb kofte tagine.

Tesco Finest’s El Recurso Block 18 Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 is a little more expensive at £12. It’s a full-bodied statement wine, with hints of pepper, spice and liquorice amid the blackcurrant, and would go brilliantly with this lemon thyme and fennel butterflied leg of lamb.
