Your broccoli questions answered
When is broccoli in season?
We’re lucky in the UK that broccoli is readily available all year round, however it’s at its peak from October though to April.
What different varieties of broccoli are there?
There are many varieties of broccoli. Our recipes tend to use Calabrese (the most familiar), purple sprouting and tenderstem.
How can you make broccoli taste better?
Some people (and often kids) aren’t keen on the taste of broccoli and dismiss it as a food they dislike. You can, however, transform the taste of broccoli with the addition of a few simple ingredients. Try adding some of the following to cooked broccoli to change the flavour:
- A pinch of salt, garlic (fresh or dried powder) and a handful of parmesan
- A pinch of salt and teaspoon of chilli flakes
- A drizzle of teriyaki sauce
- Once your broccoli is cooked (but still hot) add a chunk of butter, some dried herbs and a pinch of salt
