5 homemade Christmas tree decorations for foodies
I’m a foodie. And I’m always on the look out for new ways to mix my love of food into any situation. Christmas, with all its opportunities for decorating, is an excellent time to do just that.
So, these are my top five homemade foodie Christmas tree decorations from around the web. Whether it’s an edible bauble or a way to use up leftover lolly sticks, each decoration will make your tree that little bit extra special.
Meringue Christmas tree decorations (delicious.)
The delicious. team love a good edible wreath, although these mini meringue tree decorations may not last the whole of Advent. Their snowy hue means they stand out well against the deep green pine needles of the tree, but don’t be afraid to jazz them up a bit. Dust off your piping bag and ice some seasonal designs on each wreath before adorning with edible snowflake sprinkles.
Dried orange slices (abeautifulmess)
Unimpressed by the sorry-for-itself satsuma at the bottom of your stocking? These fruity Christmas tree decorations will have you looking at the humble orange in a whole new light. Simply slice and bake these pretty pieces for an easy way to spice up your tree this year. And they’re a great festive air freshener too!
Gingerbread snowflakes (Nigella Lawson)
The real challenge here is not munching down the entire batch before decorating your tree. You don’t need to stick to snowflakes here – although they are ever so pretty. Have a go at gingerbread men, Christmas trees or reindeer, before decorating each biscuit with snowy white icing. Try adding edible glitter for an extra touch of festive glitz.
Cinnamon star ornaments (aprettylifeinthesuburbs)
Cinnamon’s sweet smell sums up Christmas. Which is why these star creations aren’t just a treat for the eyes. Your room will be filled with wonderful aromas – from the warming spice of the cinnamon sticks to the wonderful pine scent of the tree itself. And you don’t just have to stick to stars. Wrap a bundle of cinnamon together with a festive ribbon, for a simple but effective decoration.
Popsicle stick sleds (clean&scentsible)
If there was ever an excuse to eat an ice lolly, this is it. These are great to make with kids and can be decorated however you like. Once you’ve assembled your sled, try painting them with festive colours and designs so they really stand out on your tree.
