This is everything you could wish for from a night in the Cotswolds: relaxed fine dining in a cosy country inn surrounded by beautiful countryside. The Feathered Nest has great walks on its doorstep, and the towns of Burford, Stow-on-the-Wold and Bourton-on-the-Water are less than a 15-minute drive away. If you have time, Sezincote House and Garden is a bit further, a striking 200-year-old Mughal Indian-style palace set in rolling hills.

On your return, prepare to be spoiled with a six-course tasting menu for two and matching wine flight in the 3 AA Rosette restaurant. The menu is inventive, with dishes such as roasted Orkney scallops with braised pork cheek and bramley apple; fillet of ruby red Devon beef with black truffle; and Yorkshire rhubarb with vanilla custard and ginger crumble. Before dinner, head to the bar and treat yourself to a local Hooky beer or signature cocktail, such as a mezcal old fashioned.

After dinner, The Cottage (above) is where you’ll be resting your head. The self-contained accommodation has flagstone flooring, a superking bed and oversized bath. After a peaceful night’s sleep, visit the restaurant for a hearty Cotswolds breakfast before heading home relaxed and rejuvenated.
