Relaxing is second nature here – the winner can take in the peaceful surroundings from the private terrace, prepare an aperitif in the marble-walled kitchen, or cool off by the shared swimming pool after a long day exploring. Time it right and your visit might coincide with the Saturday market where you can buy freshly caught seafood for dinner – and you must try the bars and restaurants that line the pretty harbour, a setting for many a Hollywood movie over the years.

In Villefranche-sur-Mer’s Old Town you can wander the winding cobblestone streets and visit the romanesque St Pierre chapel, beautifully restored by filmmaker Jean Cocteau. Elsewhere, head for Marinières beach, browse the chic boutiques or explore next-door Nice to the west or Monaco (just 15 minutes east by train). For walkers there are stunning coastal paths and if you choose to hire a car for your stay, the apartment even has reserved parking.
