Tried and tasted: the best new Easter eggs for 2024
We don’t know about you, but Easter this year has us wanting to go all out with the eggs like never before. Maybe it’s the huge array of choice on offer, or perhaps we need escapism from all this rain we’ve been getting, who can say…?
Without further ado, here are the best new Easter eggs for 2024: from handcrafted hazelnut praline options, to eggs full of pistachios from Italy, or a marbled Cadbury’s egg. All products featured here can be purchased online or from major supermarket chains.
Eataly’s Pistachio Easter egg
This hefty, luxury egg from Eataly is a treat of a chocolate product. In between chocolate walls sits a fudgy hazelnut and cocoa cream entre, stuffed with real chopped pistachios. Inside the hollow but mighty egg is a bonus surprise – a bag of top quality chcolate buttons. The super rich 400g egg would easily last a couple of good weeks or more. So though pricey, this egg offers bang for buck. Available from Eataly (£34.90).
The Dorchester’s chocolate and hazelnut praline golden egg
If you’re looking to really splash the cash this Easter, this golden egg from London hotel The Dorchester will not disappoint. It’s the weightiest egg on this list, at over 750g grams, and is handcrafted at the Dorchester’s own kitchens with their bespoke Varlhona milk chocolate. In between the chocolate you’ll find hazelnut praline, and inside the egg is an inner layer which includes a crunchy caramel eclats and sea salt for a satisfying and decadent crunch. It’s undoubtedly expensive, but this generous egg would last any self-respecting chocoholic a good while… Available from The Dorchester (£60).
Tony’s Chocoloney caramel milk chocolate egg
Tony’s Chocolonely have bold ambitions to make fairly traded, ethical chocolate the norm and fans of sweet and savoury flavour combos will love the hit of salt and chewy caramel nibs in this milk choc egg. Also included: five mini solid eggs of mixed flavours. Available from Waitrose, Sainsbury’s Asda and Ocado (£10 for 242g).
This interactive hazelnut and chocolate egg is a bit unusual in that it needs to be peeled. It’s not one for dipping toast soldiers into… But: the delicious praline filling is well worth the effort, and the eggcup can be kept for year’s to come. Available from Daylesford (£15).
PLAYinCHOC’s puzzle surprise
Want to skip the plastic-wrapped eggs? We’re liking ToyChoc: organic chocolate that comes with a 3D puzzle surprise for kids. The bunny rabbit toys are perfect for Easter, and for grown-ups, there are Great Taste-approved 3-ingredient bars too (£1.65). All available from PLAYinCHOC (from £1.65, or £13.50 for a gift set).
Venchi’s Chocoviar stracciatella egg
This luxe egg from famous chocolatiers Venchi is new for 2024, and is a successful contrast of a smooth, white chocolate shell enhanced with cream, and a nut, biscuit and ‘Chocoviar’ centre. The combination of melt-in-the-mouth chocolate and crunchy chocolate interior makes for an egg that is incredibly decadent and sweet. It’s on the expensive end of the scale, for sure, but this egg is one that lovers of white chocolate will not be able to stop eating. Available from Venchi (£53).
These chocolate pralines from Farhi are wrapped in pleasingly coloured foil and make a brilliant gift for those you want to impress. The chocolate is brilliant quality and dangerously moreish. Perfectly shareable, think of these as the after dinner chocolates just a little bit more Easter… Available from Farhi (£20 for 370g).
Cadbury’s Dairy Milk & White Marbled egg
Cadbury’s Dairy Milk & White Marbled egg has creamy swirls of milk & white chocolate, making it a great option for an indecisive chomper. While this isn’t the most exciting, flavour-wise, it would be welcomed by any chocolate lover. There’s also a half-and-half option, perfect for snapping and sharing (if you’re into such things…) Available from Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, and Tesco (£12 for 372g).
Harvey Nichols pretzel or honeycomb and biscuit egg
Indulge in the trend for caramelised white chocolate with Harvey Nichols’ decadent blonde egg, pleasingly knobbly with chunks of honeycomb and biscuit. If milk chocolate is the only one for you their pretzel-studded egg is a fantastic option. Bonus ganache truffles inside. Available from Harvey Nichols (£34 for 300g).
Betty’s Milk Chocolate Spring Flowers egg
Betty’s (online shop and tearoom) has released a Milk Chocolate Spring Flowers egg which has found a top spot on our ‘almost too pretty to eat’ list. Exquisite milk chocolate adorned with delicate edible flowers, this is a great one to gift. Check out their cherry fondant fancies too. Available from Bettys (£38.50 for 350g).
Co-op’s Milk-free Salted Toffee Egg
This option for those who can’t eat milk products is really impressive. Smooth with a surprisingly subtle flavour, we’d argue you can’t even tell this is milk-free! Available from Co-op (£4.50 for 150g).
Daylesford Spring Birdhouse with Chocolate Praline Great Tit Eggs
We love a multipurpose treat. Once you’ve eaten these praline milk chocolates, you can hang the birdhouse in your garden. Daylesford also has hand-painted eggs decorated to resemble various bird eggs. They are spectacular. Available from Daylesford (£15).
Booja Booja box of truffles
What could be more luxurious than a hand-painted heart box filled with fine de champagne truffles? Vegan and organic truffles, obviously. These chocolates have won 21 awards too, so don’t just take our word for it…Booja Booja’s new easter loglets (think tasty truffle twigs) come in some delicious flavours too – raspberry scrunch and salted caramel (£9.99 for 115g). Plant-based decadence all-round. Available from Booja Booja (£27.99 for 115g).
