What they do:
Stroud Brewery was established in 2006 at its current site in Gloucestershire. The brewery produce a range of premium organic beers, made using Cotswold-grown barley from a farm 15 miles away. It is then traditionally malted at Warminster Maltings, the oldest working maltings in Britain.
The main focus of the business is brewing unique cask-conditioned beer, but Stroud has extended production to include organic, vegan and seasonal offerings. Their Alederflower Pale Ale is brewed with organically grown cascade and nelson sauvin hops and subtly infused with organic elderflowers.
The team at Stroud endeavour to make the community part of their business. They boast a ‘hop club’ with approximately 40 members who grow hops in their allotments and gardens. The brewery hold an annual harvest event where the club enjoy beers and music at their site while picking the home-grown hop flowers for their Brewer’s Garden beer.
What the judges said:
The judging panel thought Stroud Brewery’s idea for a hop club was ingenious and felt their dedication to the quality of ingredients made them an impressive finalist.
