A spicy, warming cocktail made with bourbon whisky and lemon – serve this American classic as an alternative to champagne at New Years Eve or Christmas parties.

Ingredients

600ml bourbon whiskey
300ml fresh lemon juice
300ml sugar syrup
Angostura Bitters
10 thin lemon slices to garnish
10 maraschino cherries, each spiked onto a cocktail stick, to garnish

Method

Pour the whiskey, lemon juice and sugar syrup into a large jug with ice cubes, then stir with a long spoon for 30 seconds to chill. Strain into 10 short glasses with a couple of ice cubes in the bottom. Splash a few drops of Angostura Bitters into each one, then stir. Garnish with a lemon slice and maraschino cherry.
