Great Taste Awards 2023: 6 of the best three-star winners

It’s that time of year again… Excitement is building for the Great Taste Golden Forks ceremony on 11 September, where the Supreme Champion will be revealed. Ahead of that we’ve rounded up half a dozen of the best Great Taste 3-Star products we reckon should be on your shopping list. What the judges said… “A powerful vinegar with brooding deep colour… It’s malty and tangy with caramel and bitter chocolate notes and a long, savoury, fermented finish… Wonderful to cook with or serve as a dipping sauce.”

Gamechanger pastry

What the judges said… “It’s hard to know how to fault this. It’s made with very good ingredients, with real skill… The feather-light pastry crumbles and almost melts in the mouth, leaving a rich, buttery taste.”

Welsh chocolates
Charlotte Roskill hand-makes all her chocolates in a small shop in the market town of Brecon, in Wales. The premises used to be a jewellers and, as she likes to say, it’s still bringing sparkle.

What the judges said… “A stunningly presented chocolate. The flavours are well balanced and give a wonderful aftertaste… The whisky is well judged and doesn’t overpower the chocolate. The ganache is rich and creamy.”

Next-level hot sauce
Nottingham-based Sauce Shop products were first made in the kitchen of sauce-fanatic couple Pam and James Digva. This one will send your chicken wings into the stratosphere.

What the judges said… “There’s great depth in the aroma. On the palate are wonderful flavours of chilli, along with a brilliant salt level and acidity… It has a great texture and a lasting flavour.”

Sardines, the traditional way
Girribizzi is an online Italian deli selling a curated selection of food from small producers. The name translates as ‘little desires’ and you’ll certainly desire these sardines, fished at night by traditional ‘gozzo’ boats.
