Crete through the eyes of two hungry travellers
Guy Dimond and our own deputy editor, Susan Low, visited the Greek island of Crete during Easter holidays. Quiet, warm and brimming with culinary magic – it’s a destination worthy of a gastronomic holiday.

Typical Greek architecture is spotted in Chania. White stone, blue shutters and three wicker vases sporting colourful daisies – it’s a photographer’s dream.

March is a warm and bountiful time of year in Crete. Wild flowers and poppies grow alongside overgrown paths in the White Mountains. They offer welcome pops of colour after a frosty winter.
A visit to Crete isn’t complete without a trip to the farmer’s market. Artichokes the size of footballs beckon to passersby.
A sack of snails can be purchased for just around four Euro, taken home and fried up in garlic and butter.
A bowl of chocolate eggs, wrapped in brightly-coloured foil sit in a small metal bowl. Two red-dyed hen’s eggs wait to be cracked together in a game called tsougrisma.
