Have you ever tried a classic daiquiri? Today the daiquiri comes in many forms, often adulterated with different fruits and infusions (all of which are very tasty). But the OG daiquiri is just a simple combination of rum, lime and sugar, thought to have originated in Cuba at the end of the nineteenth century. It’s the original sour cocktail – and remains as refreshing today as it did all those years ago.

No sugar syrup? Icing sugar is a great substitute, as it’s fine enough to dissolve into the liquid it’s shaken with quickly.
Ingredients
- 60ml white or golden rum
- 20ml lime juice
- 10ml sugar syrup or 2 level tsp icing sugar
- Lime wedge or wheel to garnish
Method
- Put all the ingredients apart from the lime wedge/wheel in a cocktail shaker with plenty of ice, then shake vigorously for 30 seconds. Strain into a coupe glass and garnish with a lime wedge/wheel.
